Tempted by Brothers
Amber Donovan has one goal: to get her inheritance. To get it, she can’t marry until she turns thirty, her guardian must approve of the man she chooses, and she must remain a virgin until then. Too bad the McCann brothers are so tempting.
Dane and Carson McCann are tiger shifters who run a restaurant together. They know Amber is their mate, but what they don’t know is why their full-figured girl lets them dominate and all but penetrate her. Despite her personal tug-o’-war and her overprotective guardian, they pursue her.
An ancient evil rises from the darkness in search of virgin blood. But the monster isn’t alone. It has an accomplice and both have made Amber their target. Between random animal attacks in Temptation and Amber’s insecurities about her weight, Dane and Carson have their work cut out for them. But they’re determined that nothing will keep them from the woman they were meant to have.

Chapter One:
Two Temptations
There were two of them. Amber Donovan tried to make her glances discreet, but one look at the two hotties standing across the street and she knew it was hopeless. Both men were brothers and their last name was McCann according to Millie Stein, the woman who owned Stein’s Bar with her husband, Lars.
The Steins were her bosses, or rather they had been until she’d given her two weeks’ notice. The friendly German couple had treated Amber well and told her they’d miss her. Yesterday had been her last day to work for them, but she didn’t want to think about that right now.
Truth be told she couldn’t think of anything whenever she passed by the two McCann brothers in town. They had moved to Temptation recently, but she didn’t know their first names. She’d never talked to them. Carrying on a coherent conversation with attractive men wasn’t really her talent. She’d end up stuttering or giggling too much and then snorting a little while she laughed. Yeah, that would win them over.
The tallest of the brothers was the bulkiest of the stud batch. His wavy dark-brown hair was short but long enough to partially cover his ears if he wanted it to. He had a strong jaw and a dark beard and mustache that only added to his macho, rugged appearance.
She’d never gotten close enough to get as good a look at him as she wanted to, but she’d glimpsed his face when he’d come into the bar before. She’d just clocked off and he had walked in for a drink. Her coworker got to wait on him instead. Amber had cursed her luck, but she’d had delicious dreams that night of dark coffee-brown eyes.
She made her pace brisk when she saw the man glance over at her with a dreamy smile while he spoke to someone.
God, I wish I had the confidence to talk to a man like that.
When she peeked over again she saw him look over at her with an interesting expression. It was weird that his face should appear so neutral while his eyes were clearly fixated on her for some reason.
Oh no, the wind probably screwed up my hair. Damn it! I have an interview.
The other McCann brother was sinful and intense with his towering height and enviable muscles. He had short blond hair, irresistible stubble she wanted to play with, and unwavering blue-green eyes that followed her as she walked.
Oh come on, I don’t look that bad. Quit staring at me.
The shameless hunk didn’t let up. He completely ignored the man talking with his brother and stood there staring at her the entire time. Apparently he didn’t believe in being inconspicuous and it was unnerving as hell.
Amber walked faster until she reached the Jitterbug Coffeehouse.
This is it.
Don’t be nervous. Brenda seems cool.
Amber took a deep breath and went inside. She loved the ambiance of the place. It had the typical classy coffee-shop swag along with a liberal dose of ladybugs. The owner, Brenda Sexton must have been into the spotted little bugs. They were cute, so who could blame her?
Amber headed into the bathroom to look herself over. Her silky white blouse and gray slacks hugged all her curves, but after seeing the McCann brothers a little bit ago, she was back to contemplating on downsizing some of those curves.
What kind of women did they like? Probably not her type. She wished she could find a man who loved her and found her curvaceous body irresistible. She would do anything for such a man.
She ran a comb through her brown hair quickly and then headed back out into the main area.
Brenda, the owner, stood behind the counter getting the machines ready. “Hey, toots. Are you here for your interview?”
Amber smiled nervously. “Yeah, I am.”
Brenda swept her with a brief glance. “Your tits are bigger than mine. That’s no good.”
Amber’s brow furrowed in confusion. What the heck did her breasts have to do with working here? “Excuse me?”
“Your tits, hon. They’re too big. You’ll get all the attention from the boys when they come in.” Brenda looked up at her from the coffee machine she was tinkering with. “If you want to work here you’re going to have to get a breast reduction.”
Amber gaped at her. What exactly did a person say to something like that? “I…uh…”
Brenda burst into laughter and slapped the counter. “I’m just kidding. Oh hell, your face is priceless! You’re going to be a treat to work with. I can tell.”
Amber smiled in relief. “So I’m hired?”
“Damn right. You can start work tomorrow.”
“Thank you so much. What about my interview?”
“Oh, hon, I decided on you the minute I saw your fancy resume. Plus you’re a sweet little thing, and I need to have you close so I can find you a man to fool around with. Wink, wink.” Brenda guffawed and continued setting up for the day.
Amber blushed, trying not to think about the McCann brothers. “Thank you. I really appreciate it.”
“No problem, toots. You remember the dress code?”
“Black pants.”
Brenda grinned. “You should probably wear a top, too, hon.”
Amber’s face flushed with warmth and she giggled. “Yeah, that might be good. I’ll consider it.”
Brenda snickered. “See you tomorrow. Flip the sign while you’re at it. The hot-ass cops and firemen will be making their rounds soon.”
“Sure.” Amber turned the sign to open before heading back outside. “Thanks again.”
* * * *
Dane McCann tried to be polite and listen to the random man who had passed before stopping to engage him and his older brother, Carson, in conversation, but he couldn’t help himself. Amber Donovan looked too good walking by in her classy outfit with her long brown hair swaying and flopping while she walked.
He and Carson had never spoken with her, but they’d seen her plenty in town and had asked Lars Stein her name. From what Dane had learned Amber was twenty-nine and lived alone. He wished she had a roommate so she would be protected and have companionship.
Then again, maybe she needed him and his brother to fill that need.
You might want to talk to her first before you suggest something as bold as moving in with her.
He was thirty-six and his brother, Carson was thirty-seven. At least they were close in age to the pretty little thing, but even if there had been a glaring age gap it wouldn’t have mattered. Amber was their predestined mate and she was theirs for the taking.
When the babbling man left, Dane got excited that he might actually get a chance to go over and talk to Amber for the first time. He really wanted to introduce himself to his mate, but he wanted to do it right. He would only get to give her one first impression and he wanted to put his best foot forward and wow her while still being himself.
Bathsheba Kensington came over with a flirty look on her face. She was a young woman of striking beauty. Her porcelain skin and long dark halo of curls reminded him of someone who might have been at home in historical clothing. Her dark brown hair could be mistaken for black in dim light.
Her mint-green eyes could change as quickly as the weather. The light green that so effortlessly conveyed dubious sweetness could just as easily flash to a chilling gray. She could be mistaken for the damsel in distress and in the next minute those eyes could haunt with the cunning betrayal that had probably shone in another woman’s eyes in the good book—a look that had undoubtedly stayed with Sampson and chilled him with its transparency that was discovered far too late.
Bathsheba gasped when she saw Dane. “Oh my God, I almost ran into you, Dane. You’re so big and strong.”
She pawed at his chest like he was a soft rabbit pelt in a museum that she couldn’t stop touching. Her feminine wiles were sometimes obvious, but he always gave her a break since she was so young. He didn’t flirt back, but he was polite and friendly.
Carson had flirted with her a little, but since he, too, had caught Amber’s scent on the breeze and recognized his mate, he only had eyes for her. He stood just off the wood plank sidewalk and leered at Amber without remorse. Dane would have laughed at his brother’s intensity, but if Carson scared their beautiful mate off, Dane was going to have to turn psycho and pulverize him.
Bathsheba pretended to sneeze and let out a girlish scream as she flung herself against Dane’s sturdy chest so he caught her in his arms.
“Oh, Dane, I could have gotten hurt and your strength saved me,” she told him and then let out a girly sigh.
“Yes, because it’s so far to the ground,” Carson muttered.
Dane cleared his throat, hoping to shut him up. Carson had no sense of tact. When he was bored or mentally distracted, anybody near him would be ignored at best or the recipient of snide remarks at worst. He had a one-track mind and lately it had been entirely honed in on Amber.
“It was nothing,” Dane replied with a smile.
“Oh, but it was.” Bathsheba groped his arms.
Dane cringed when she kissed him on the cheek the moment he noticed Amber watching them from across the street. When she saw him returning her stare, her head dropped and she hurried away.
We’re not with her, Amber. We only want you. Just give us a chance to show you.
Bathsheba prattled on with her hands still on him. “I need to thank you properly.”
“Then leave us,” Carson said loud enough for her to hear.
“Carson,” Dane scolded him.
Bathsheba’s eyes narrowed on Carson. “I have some shopping to do. It was nice seeing you, Dane.”
“And you, Miss Kensington.”
“Oh please, call me Bathsheba.”
Dane offered her a small smile, but it saddened him that Amber had seen him talking with Bathsheba.
Bathsheba glared at the back of Carson before strutting away.
Dane shook his head. “That was very rude, Car.”
Carson scoffed and rolled his eyes. “Yeah well, while you were busy being nice with the village whore our mate was watching us.”
“Bathsheba isn’t a whore. You shouldn’t refer to the young thing as one.”
“I should if she is one. I thought your brilliant plan was to introduce ourselves to Amber, not give her the impression that we’re taken. Should I claim her without you?”
“Don’t you dare,” Dane warned, feeling his inner tiger getting riled. He would seriously cat-pummel his brother right here in the street if he suggested anything like that again. “We claim her together and not until I say.”
“We need to introduce ourselves before someone else scoops her up and takes her home,” Carson advised. “That one’s a beauty and she’s got a sweet face. She’ll be taken in no time if we don’t get to her first.”
/> “Fine, we’ll introduce ourselves to her this week,” Dane decided, “but we take turns so she’s not overwhelmed. And no telling her that we’re shifters yet. I don’t want to scare her off.”
Carson said nothing. He just peered off into the direction that Amber had walked. Dane knew him well enough to know that his careless silence meant that he was on board with the plan.
Chapter Two:
First Impressions
Amber couldn’t stop thinking about what she’d seen. Damn Bathsheba. The woman known as the village whore just had to sink her vixen claws into the McCann brothers, didn’t she? Couldn’t the bitch just leave her fantasy alone and let Amber have them all to herself even if only in her head?
After stopping to eat some breakfast, she walked to the auto shop to check on her car. Dawson Taylor, the owner and a mechanic, wasn’t there like she’d expected.
A tall, muscled man was bent over with his head buried in the propped up hood of a car while he worked on it. The worn jeans hugged his tight, man-candy ass and he had an oil rag hanging from the back pocket in his pants.
When he pulled his head out from under the hood and rose, her breath caught. It was one of the McCann brothers, the macho, scruffy, dark-haired one. He had on a white T-shirt that hugged his well-developed guns, and his faded jeans had sexy holes in them. His dark brown hair looked thick and wavy. She was itching to run her fingers through it.
His black coffee eyes heated when they fell on her. “Hello, Amber.”
Her stomach tightened and her pussy flooded. Hearing him say her name in that commanding voice had a powerful effect on her she couldn’t shake.
